"Gobble gobble!"

Jack laughed as he watched his five year-old son run around the stage in his turkey costume. He was being chased by another boy in an Indian costume.

He felt a little awkward sitting in the crowded auditorium in his fatigues, but he hadn't wanted to be any later than he was. He'd phoned home as soon as the plane had landed, then had a driver drop him off at the school.

"You're right Sara, he does look cute in that."

Sara smiled at her husband. She'd been worried Jack wouldn't be able to make it. It was Charlie's first class play and the little boy had been looking forward to it for weeks. He'd jabbered on about it incessantly the few times Jack had been able to call home.

Jack had promised he wouldn't miss it for anything. True to his word he'd shown, a few minutes late, but he'd made it. Jack looked exhausted, but he smiled proudly at his little boy. What made it even better was that Jack had been granted two weeks leave. For the first time in three years, he'd be home for thanksgiving. No missions for two weeks. His CO had sworn it.

The entire room roared with laughter causing Sara to look back at the stage. She laughed as she watched Charlie, who now had the axe, chase the boy who'd had the axe around the stage. His frazzled looking teacher trailed behind.

Sara turned her attention back towards Jack. Although he still had dark circles under his eyes, all signs of stress were gone. Jack stood up and applauded loudly.

Sara turned her attention to the stage again. Mrs. Hagen had, apparently, finally managed to get the axe away from her son. The stage was full of bowing kindergartners.

Charlie caught sight of his father and ran off the stage into Jack's waiting arms. Jack hugged his boy tightly for several minutes then pulled Sara into it. After a few more minutes he finally released Sara, but still held Charlie in his arms. They laughed and talked as they walked out of the school and went home.
