It wasn't fair.
He knew that life wasn't fair, it almost never was but this…this was beyond not being fair. She wasn't supposed to be taken from him, not now, not ever.
Yet here he stood alone, when she was supposed to be there standing beside him through thick and thin. It definitely was one of the thick times, but it was because of her.
It was all his fault; he had sent her there just to get her out of what was left of his hair. Now she wasn't coming back, or well she was but not the way she was supposed to.
She would be coming off the plane in a casket.
Too many people that he had loved had died, and they were all his fault.
First his sister, he had run out of the house and didn't try to save her. Then his father, he should have been there for him but instead he was trying to get the president elected.
Now her, he sent her to Gaza just because he didn't want to lose her. So much for that plan.
It wasn't supposed to happen this way; it wasn't supposed to happen at all.
He had been told at work.
CJ had coming rushing down the hall telling him that there had been an explosion in Gaza. He had been shell shocked, immediately thinking that she could be over there hurt and he was no were near her to comfort her. But all hope that she had only been hurt was crushed when CJ told him with tears sliding down her face, that she didn't make it. He doesn't remember much after that, CJ put him in a chair that was in his office and the rest of the day was a blur.
The funeral was small, family and close friends only.
Her mother had sobbed loudly the whole time, while her father had just sat there giving her his silent support as they watched there youngest daughter lowered into the ground.
Her sister sat next to her father holding his hand while silently crying, wishing that if only she had been a little closer to her that maybe she wouldn't have gone off to that stupid campaign.
The President stood silently off to the side with the first lady, blaming himself for Donna's death just as he had blamed himself for Mrs. Landinghams death.
CJ stood silently crying, wishing that her last words with her hadn't been so harsh.
Toby stood next to CJ giving her his silent support, wondering how this would effect an already had to many bad things happen to him.
Josh was barely able to stand there as he watched her lowered into the ground; he wanted to yell out that she couldn't be dead, that he hadn't told yet. He hadn't told her that if she died to that they might as well bury him, because a large part of him died with her.
Her tombstone was a dark marble, displaying only her name.
