Sticks and Stones
Chapter One
Grissom walked through the woods away from the flashing red and blue lights towards the flash light beams he saw up ahead. Right behind him was Catherine, with her crime kit in hand. She followed close, very close. At one point she stepped on the heal of Grissoms shoe almost causing him to fall.
"Jeez Cath! What's up?" He asked as he turned around.
"Lindsey had me up watching horror movies all night. Way too many 'killer hiding in the woods' stories."
The two ducked under the yellow crime scene tape and walked over to Brass. Grissom tapped him on the shoulder. He jumped and turned around so fast Grissom barely had time to pull his hand back.
"Well Catherine, your not the only jumpy one tonight." Grissom said as he smiled.
"Horror movies." Were also Brass' excuse "Vic's name is Amy Grant, she's 32, lives in Henderson. Drivers license was in her purse." He paused and pointed over to a man talking with a police officer. He looked to be in his late 30, early 40's. "Tom Bushnell found her. He said he was out bird watching, looking up, not paying attention to where he was going, then he tripped over something. When he looked down, this is what he saw. Used his cell phone and called 911 right away."
Catherine headed over to the body, she looked around and noticed that David wasn't there.
"Brass, have you seen David?"
"No, but he should be here soon. "
As if on cue, David, followed by Nick, Warrick and Sara walked under the tape.
David headed over to Catherine and the body while Nick, Warrick and Sara walked over to Grissom.
"Okay, vic's name is Amy Grant, 32, she lives in Henderson. She was found by a bird watcher, Tom Bushnell. " Grissom told them what Brass had told him just a few seconds ago.
Warrick looked at his watch "Why would someone be hiking at 3:00 in the morning?" he asked
Nick was the first to answer the question "Because if he was looking for rare birds, this is the time to be out looking for them."
"Discovery channel?" Sara asked. Nick only smiled.
Catherine walked over to the group. "David said she's been dead for about two hours. "
"Well that would make T.O.D around 1:00" Sara pointed out
"You think she was bird watching too" Warrick asked
"Not in the clothes that she's wearing." Catherine said
"Catherine, Nick, and I will collect evidence, Sara, you do the pictures, and Warrick, you can go interview Tom Bushnell."
Everyone got started right away and within a few hours they were headed back to the lab with the evidence they collected.

"Can you tell us C.O.D?" Catherine asked Doc Robbins
"She was stabbed." He pointed to three large cuts on her stomach. "She bled out."
Grissom was looking over the body and noticed several scratches and bruises oh her arms, legs, and neck.
"Could these be from running through the woods?" Grissom asked.
"Possibly, there were tiny wood chips in some of the wounds, but I doubt it. They aren't all horizontal like you would expect to see, some go up her arm. Also, if she was running, wouldn't she have put her arms out in front of her or ducked to protect her neck?"
"I know I would have. What are you suggesting?" Catherine asked
"I think she was hit with the tree branches. Someone picked them up off the ground and used them as weapons." Robbins said looking at her and Grissom.
"Then they stabbed her?" Catherine asked.
"Sticks and stones can break your bones, but knives can kill you faster. "
