SEASON: 1 before But For The Grace of God

WORD COUNT: 212

AUTHORS NOTE: Written for the November 18th drabble word 'Gobble'. Eventually, I might actually be able to use the drabble word in a drabble. Thanks to my beta, Cokie.

"Yeah, a turkey. You know, gobble gobble. A turkey."

"I see." Teal'c replied. "What is a gobble?"

Jack and Sam sniggered.

"It's the sound a male turkey makes."

Jack grinned at the flustered archeologist. Daniel was waving his hands around emphatically.

"Why do you eat this beast only on this day?"

Daniel had spent the last two hours trying to explain Thanksgiving to the Jaffa. He sighed in frustration then began to speak again.

Jack decided to give Daniel a break and jumped in. "Look T, it's not just about the turkey or the food, though they are a part of it. It's a day for friends and family to get together, eat good food, and celebrate what they have to be thankful for."

"I see. I believe I have much to be thankful for than."

There was no need to elaborate. They all new what Teal'c meant.

Jack smiled as, his team, his friends, his family, took their seats at his table. It amazed him how two scientists (who were so completely different from him) and an alien (whom he'd felt an almost instant kinship with), had so quickly become so important to him. Despite the odds, and their differences, they had become his surrogate family.

For that, he was thankful.
