This is my first ever Gilmore Girls fic. I really don't think it's wonderful, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I hope you enjoy.
And I don't own Gilmore Girls. I mean, it would be fabulous if I did ... But that's just a fantasy. I'm also not being paid to do this. I do it because it keeps me sane.
Get It - The very beginning of A New and Improved Lorelai
"What!" Luke took a step back, his eyes wide and his mouth hanging open.
"I said will you marry me?" Lorelai swallowed silently, and bit her lip.
"Wha—why—how—when? Lorelai…Do you know…" Luke was still almost speechless.
"You were there, talking about how you were going to make Rory go back to Yale, and I just knew that you got it."
Luke frowned. "Got what?"
"I just realized that you got it. It. That I'm part of a package deal. All those men that I've been with—well, maybe not Christopher—have seen the situation as a 'get Lorelai Gilmore, but you have to get her daughter, too' situation. Like that they were fine with marrying me, but Rory was just a little add-on. She made the situation worse, not better. Actually, I think that it kinda creeped Max out … But that was a long time ago.
"But you don't just get it. I can tell. Not only do you not see it like that, you love Rory so much, as much as anyone I know. To you, it's not a 'Rory Gilmore is the free gift that no one wants' type of deal. It's a 'two for the price of one' deal. I can just tell."
Luke nodded silently. "I do love Rory. She's like the kid I never had—well, at least not yet." He smiled slightly. "You're right, you know. You wouldn't be the same crazy Lorelai without Rory to be addicted to caffeine right beside you. You two are like two halves of one person."
Lorelai nodded slowly and stared at her feet.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have brought that up at all."
Luke watched Lorelai bite her lower lip and squeeze her eyes shut for just a moment. She took a deep breath and spoke slowly, her voice quavering the slightest bit.
"Well?" She stared up at him, her eyes begging and fearful all at once.
"Lorelai…Are you sure that you want to do this? You know what I will say; I just want to know that you're sure this is what you want to do."
She smiled slightly, and nodded. "I'm positive, Luke. Absolutely, one-hundred percent positive. This is what I want to do; where I want to go with my life."
Luke smiled—no teeth, but a smile nonetheless. "I'm glad. And in that case, my answer is yes." As he said that, his smile widened. Lorelai didn't think that she'd ever seen him smile that broadly.
She stood up, and looked at him, smiling so happily he thought her face would split. "I love you, you know."
"I know. I love you, too."
Suddenly, Luke smiled more truly than Lorelai had ever seen him, and swept her up into a hug. She rested her head on his shoulder, and let her eyes close.
I really hope that you liked this.
