It was comforting, in way.

It was comforting to know that in Victoria, Miami, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, San Francisco, Quantico, London, Paris, Sydney, Beijing, Warsaw, Lisbon, New York, Portland and everywhere else in the world, she was not alone.

Everywhere today, the same thing would be read not only Hebrew but in almost every language imaginable, and then some. Even if you were visiting the country and didn't know the language, if you had gone on the day before you knew exactly what they were talking about. You knew the story by heart probably having heard it read 20 or more times.

As she sat listening to the story of the day again, she let her mind wander. She thought back tot eh first time she'd been to Jerusalem. The first time she could remember anyway. At five years old the world seemed so big, so scary and yet so inviting. Of course she knew what was going on in the world, but it was too complex a subject for her to wrap her mind around, so she let it go and enjoyed the sites around her.

That had been comforting too. To know she was surrounded by others like her. No matter how educated she'd been she never would have understood it until he explained it. When she'd been told that not everyone was Jewish and in fact millions of people had been killed for being Jewish she'd been scared. Then mad. And then she knew.

She knew that she couldn't change the past, to bring back those who had perished 1,000's of years ago or barely a decade ago, but she knew she had to stop it from happening again. It was her destiny.

As she settled back into what the rabbi was saying she thought about how comforting it was to know that in a strange new country, she wasn't really alone.

A small shuffling noise came from besides her, she was surprised to see Gibbs.

"We've got a case." he told her, and reluctantly she left, but knew that she would hear the story again, along with everyone else.

No, Ziva wasn't really so alone after all, and it was kind of comforting to know that.

THE END.
