The Lost Years What we're looking for here is: what happened to the characters in the years between the opening scene of the movie and the day Elizabeth remembers the medallion? (the day, of course, that Norrington is promoted) Concentrate on any character you wish... Elizabeth, Governor Swann, Norrington, Gibbs, Jack, the cursed pirates. (who are, of course, cursed at the beginning of this time-frame so if you could save stories of the mutiny for a possible future theme it's be appreciated

16 year old Elizabeth Swann sighed as she sat atop a bluff that overlooked the township of Port Royal. The slight breeze made her golden brown hair tickle her face and the sun shone at just the right angle to make the ocean glow. She loved sitting up here and watching the time and townsfolk pass by. In the years before hand she would sit on the green, soft grass and make up ridiculous stories about what the people might be doing as they dashed about their little lives.

This thought made her sigh in sadness again. She'd never been alone up here, she had always been in the company of her truest friend, Will. When they were younger it was a game they played together, but as they grew older Will seemed less interested in making up stories and more interested in being concerned for her safety. It had got to the point where she made up the stories and he kept a weather eye out for trouble.

Today she hadn't told him she was coming up here. She knew he would be angry about it later but she probably wouldn't see him for days, she never did these days. He was always too busy in the smithy. Not that she couldn't be busy, her father was keen upon introducing her properly into the high society of Port Royal. However Elizabeth wanted nothing less, although she knew she had little, albeit no, choice about the matter. She knew that she would be introduced to suitors that her father saw as smart matches. He had been making noises about Captain Norrington lately. Elizabeth shuddered at the thought, he hated pirates, her only passion.

"Miss Swann what are you doing!" a voice broke though her pensive thoughts, startling her.

"Will," she gasped "you scared me."

"Begging your pardon Miss Swann, I meant you no harm" he said respectfully with a slight bow to his head.

"Don't be silly Will, I know that, and Iplease/I call me 'Elizabeth'" she pleaded

"I'm afraid I can not do that Miss Swann, you know as well as I it is not a proper way to address the Governor's daughter." He stated confidently

"But that's absurd Will! I'm not just the Governor's daughter" she exclaimed, "I'm your friend, your best friend!"

There was silence between the two

"Am I not your best friend Will?" Elizabeth asked, trying to keep the hurt of his silence out of her voice.

"Of course you are my friend Miss Swann…"

He was interrupted by Elizabeth my unladylike yell of "Elizabeth!"

"… but we are getting older now and the way we conduct ourselves must change to befit such expectations of society." He finished

Elizabeth looked at him in despair.

"Now please Miss Swann come down from here and promise not to come up here again unaccompanied. It's not safe. You should always have at least a lady's maid with you if not your man servant"

Elizabeth wondered where her friend had vanished to, or at least where had he gained all this knowledge of propriety.

"Yes, of course" she said dejectedly

Elizabeth followed Will down from the bluff accepting his help when it was offered, although perhaps not needed. When they had reached the mansion Will saw her to the door and waited until it was sure she would be going inside. With a curt nod of his head he bid here farewell.

"Good day Miss Swann" he bowed and turned to leave.

"Good day Mr Turner" she replied harshly.

Will's heart broke.
