DarkTaoAngel: I do not own Harry Potter, the movies or the books. I just saw the fourth movie, and so I was inspired to write this story. Please review nicely, no flames preferably.

She had met him, not ago, when she had also found out about his past. He had so much to deal with, the world was counting on him, and yet, he always kept a level head, despite all that history had against his life. She had always been on his side, no matter what happened, she would always be there to help him. Now she never could, she had missed her chance to save him.

It was hard for her to be there, knowing that so much was at risk, and any wrong move was costly. She had to find that out the hard way. It was a fight, the final one, against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and, although he was far stronger than Harry, they were almost evenly matched at this time.

There was hardly a reason why Harry should have lost, and yet, the tables turned at the last moment, the final spell. Voldemort used an unforgivable curse against Harry, and he in turn used the same, each hoping that their spell would be the greatest, though neither was better. Both spells hit their mark and, because the spells were not directly opposite each other, Priori Incantatem could not work this time.

Voldemort was defeated once and for all and, after a very long and well drawn out battle, so was Harry. Hermione and Ron had been the only ones there, and she had stood, petrified by fear, watching as he fell, all because of her. At least Ron had tried to help Harry.

She let tears flow down her face, as a small gasp escaped her mouth. She had just stood there, as the one she had known for so long died before her eyes. And she had let it happen.

She wanted to run for him, help him, but she could not, he was gone and she had to except the truth, no matter how hard it was to believe. Ron came to comfort her, as he too was crying, it was hard not to, especially if you could do nothing about it. He tried to tell her it would be okay, but it was still hard on her.

Ron held her close, protecting her from the world, and all that it could throw at her. She accepted his embrace, holding on to all she seemed to have left. They cried into the night over their friend, as old times were lost, and new beginnings were to begin.

It was all too fast for Hermione to keep up with; everything seemed to be in fast-forward. But everything seemed to happen for a reason, and although Harry was gone, Hermione still had Ron, to protect her from the horrors of the real world.

DarkTaoAngel: This may not be the best fanfiction, but it was written in only a few minutes. This was supposed to be a Harry x Hermione story, but I like Ron x Hermione better. Please do not be too harsh with your reviews, as I do not like flames!
