Prologue

"Mt. Coal would be a good place to train for the League Tournament. It's pretty dangerous, though. Are you sure you want to train there?"

Dr. Rika Shyre was a young woman of twenty-five with brilliant magenta hair and aqua-marine eyes behind half-moon glasses. She was in her usual attire of a white lab coat topped over a green sweater and blue jeans with standard brown shoes slippers. She sat in this giant, cushy armchair in her office. Being the only Pokemon and human doctor in Elemental, she was required to be on her feet all day caring for patients, it was rare to have some time for personal matters, but for Key, she made time.

Key was Dr. Rika's adopted daughter, even if she was only thirteen years younger than the doctor. Rika found Key unconscious, clutching a Pokemon egg,on Route 201 while on a hike one year ago when she had just opened her clinic. When Key woke up, she asked who was she. Dr. Rika thought that the girl was just kidding, but after an analysis, found that she had amnesia. After going through her pocket, Key found an extremely scratched up Hoenn trainer's card. The only thing that could be made out were the letters K-e-y and the word orphan. Henceforth, the amnesia victim was named Key.

Key spent two weeks with the doctor, helping her out around the clinic. During that time, Rika had taken a shine to her. Rika spent one of those weeks considering an idea she had. Finally, she decided on the answer. Dr. Rika Shyre adopted Key. Key was grateful, but stubbornly refused the new surname. Rika knew this was because she wanted to find her former identity before picking up a new one. She didn't blame her since she was an orphan herself. Another two weeks later, Rika proposed an idea to Key. She should be a trainer.

If Key were to pick up where she had left off, it might trigger something in her brain so that she'll remember something. Key stayed until the egg she had hatched into an Eeevee. Then, she set off to Fire to register for the League Tournament.

"I'm positive." Key replied, her gold eyes as serious as ever. Her fly-away many-shades-of-brown hair was tied up in the usual messy, high ponytail. Her signature trainer attire was composed of a dark grey T-shirted under a black, waterproof jaket, black cargo pants with numerous pockets, and black, hightopped sneakers. The colors were chosen due to the fact that they needed to be washed less frequently. On her hands she wore custom-made fingerless black gloves. They were mandatory since they had replaced trainer belts. "And don't worry about it, I've got friends who'll protect me, right, Feint?"

Yeppers! Feint chirped happily. The Umbreon which had evolved from the Eevee Key had was sitting on the rug playing with a squeaky toy along with Mage, the Kadabra, and Anarch, the Absol. Crystal, the Lanturn was swimming in the pond outside the clinic. Gaia, the Tropius was sunbathing in the garden. Des, the Blaziken was asleep on the couch.

"Alright, I'll get you the medicine."

That was last week. Now Rika sat helplessly at the window, watching Coal erupt. Somewhere, she could've sworn someone yelling "ANARCH!"
