After watching episodes 55-57, I can't help but write these two. They're so cute!
Depth of Strength by Redex
There is something in Shunsui that makes him want to take care of Ukitake Jyuushiro.
He likes sliding a hand down Jyuushiro's back and holding him close, whispering things into his ear and feeling the softness of his skin.
He finds a guilty pleasure in brushing back Jyuushiro's hair as he lies in bed, ill and drawn, and being the only one who can make him laugh weakly amongst his coughs.
But Ukitake Jyuushiro is a captain and does not allow himself to be pampered all that often. There was a time, when they were in the academy together, before Shunsui knew of Jyuushiro's stubborn strength, that he tried to protect him. It wasn't until a normally patient and good-natured Jyuushiro exploded with tears in his eyes.
"Do you not think I am just as strong as you! Do you think I can't take care of myself! Just because I-"
His furious speech was cut short by a bout of coughing. When Shunsui tried to wrap supporting arms around him, he was shoved off.
"I am not just a pretty boy."
And there was the thorn. Shunsui knew well enough to not say what he immediately thought, that is, that Jyuushiro was indeed very pretty.
Instead, he smiled.
"Come train with me tomorrow."
He looked surprised as he slowly caught his breath again and then nodded.
In that way Shunsui succeeded in taking care of Jyuushiro. That way, he knew how powerful the other man was, and was always able to make him stronger.
Kyouraku Shunsui knew the only way to take care of someone as stubbornly beautiful as Ukitake Jyuushiro was to make him strong himself.
