CHRISTMAS RED
She remembers the night she freed him from the asylum—how she thought this would be happily ever after. It wasn't, of course, but as she said to Red so many times, this was a matter of when, not if. And Red snorted and tsked and sighed—and the years went by.
She remembers the day she told him she was pregnant—how, to her great delight, he was quite happy with the news. She named the twins Michael and Jack—he dubbed them Mickey and Junior. And Red cradled and worried and loved—and the years went by.
She remembers the moment he really took an interest in his kids—how Michael was proud to be called Mickey because Mickey Mouse had a white face too. And Red blinked and nodded and suggested—that a few years went by without the Joker.
She remembers this as she opens her Christmas gift—graciously offered by a touching Father and Sons collaboration. She remembers it because she asked for a clue, and Jack said nothing and Micheal giggled and her Puddin' nearly laughed himself to asphyxia—and suddenly she has this feeling something is horribly wrong.
"Well ya know, Harley-girl, the boys had a hard time figuring what would please you, but Mickey remembered something that you like—"
"HOUSEPLANTS, Mum! You like houseplants!"
"…quite right, you lil' genius! My Harlequin likes annoying houseplants! So they got to choose the new one—"
"Purple and green, Mum, your favourite colors! Open the box!"
"…while I got rid of the old red one! Not a waste, if you want my opinion, talkative vegetables never did us any good anyway…"
"But this is perfect Mum! Every time you'll look at it—you'll remember we love you!"
"Go on honey—open the box! Merry Christmas!"
She remembers it, and her hands start to shake. Somewhere in the background she can hear Jack mumbles that sadly, he thinks Auntie Pam won't be able to join them this year—but to not let that spoils her fun.
Christmas Red-End
Author Notes
Those who follow closely my projects will see this is some sort of beta for Crimson Dice—although I don't plan to kill Ivy at all in this story! I guess this is the result of many factors, mainly my evil inner-self taking control this week combined to my temporary Ivy-dislike. It took me three hours to write, and I'm pretty proud of the rhythm it has, but if you really want to help me, tell me your impressions on the interactions. Annoyed? Thrilled? I'm all ears ;).
