Past and Present

He clings to me

Yet he claims he is as strong as ever

His past haunts him

Terrorizing him in his thoughts

The strong and calm soldier of the present

Holding onto me for dear life

In fear of the past

Frightened, by the very fear

He tries to hide from.

He doesn't like to admit

The fear he has of his own mind

Images stalking him

Never letting him go

He needs a friend

A friend to cling onto in this time of fear

Yet he cannot hold onto this friend

In fear of the law

Yet now, in his weakness, he clings to me

And I let him

For I know

I love him

With all my heart

And the law

Will never tear us apart
