Chapter 1

"Well it's good to see Holman so happy," Scully smiled as her and Mulder watched Holman and Sheila dance. She continued to watch them, not noticing Mulder gazing at her like he always did. When she glanced up at him, she smiled, "what?" Mulder shrugged then looked away, after a pause he turned back to her again, "since we have no place to go, nothing to do…" Mulder held out his hand. Scully smiled as she looked away, then like she was supposed to, she placed her hand in his.

The two walked to a better spot and turned toward each other. Mulder placed one of his hands on her small waist, as Scully draped her arm over his shoulder. Then, as the next song began, they intertwined their fingers, holding each other's hand in the air, and slowly started to move their feet. Every step they took they grew closer.

Scully finally got close enough to let her body lean against his. She turned her head and rested it on his chest, her hair tickling his neck a bit.

"It's funny, Sheila seemed so surprised that we didn't share a… romantic relationship," Scully stated quietly. She could feel Mulder take in a deep breath, his chest pushing up against her, then moving away once again.

"Even a love sick Holman said the same thing," Mulder informed her, "he said that he noticed how we 'gaze' at each other… silly guy."

Scully smiled, "Sheila told me that she never saw Holman as a lover, more as a friend… I told her, one day a switch is flipped... and your friend becomes the only person you can imagine yourself with..." She pulled away from his chest to look at Mulder better, he looked down at her. The music had stopped and slowly their fingers unhitched. Scully took her arm from his shoulder, and Mulder obediently removed his hand from her waist. But their eyes didn't move, not even for a second.

Finally Scully took in a deep breath and began to turn away, Mulder stopped her. He grabbed her hand, and as she turned back around to face him, he took a step forward. Because of his height compared to hers, he stopped before getting too close. He leaned in slowly, placing his other hand on her cheek. She waited until he got close enough, close of enough for her to be sure he was doing what she thought he was. At the last inch she moved toward him, letting her lips touch his for the first time.

At first their lips stayed pressed together, neither of them could move, it was like glue. But slowly Mulder let go of her hand and moved it to her waist. And slowly, Scully placed her arm back on his shoulder, never letting their lips part. Mulder soon gave the kiss more depth, and Scully reacted by giving it more passion.

Sheila and Holman watched from a short distance away. "I told you they were right for each other," Sheila smiled. Holman smiled too, and with the music starting again, the two turned away and began to dance.
