Chapter 1
Jenna awoke in a stark white cell. The glimpse of the back of the Arcadia Fertilizer Company truck flashed into her mind. She remembered. Logan. Where was he, and where was she? She could believe her sister betrayed her. This was crazy. They couldn't just turn her into fertilizer. She had to find a way out. Footsteps. What if they were coming for her? The door swung open and everything was quiet again.
"Jenna, a troubled teen, thought her parents just wanted to change her. But was her death what they had in mind? She no longer finds herself in a gated community, where only her freedom was challenged, but in a cell, only waiting to be burned and used for fertilizer. Arcadia Fertilizer Company can only be found in the Twilight Zone."
"Logan?" Jenna was startled by his strong grip awakening her. "What are--"
"Don't speak." He cut her off.
Logan led her out of the cell, to vent down the hall. He motioned for her to climb into it. She didn't dare speak. They crawled, for what seemed like forever, until they reached another vent cover leading to the outside. Once they were out they ran as far as they could.
Jenna looked over at Logan. "A lot easier than escaping Evergreen." He said with a smirk.
"You didn't attack the guard did you?"
"No, I found out where they were taking the 'bad kids.' They made that up so they could get rid of me. They thought I told you, that's why they grabbed you too."
"How could my sister have me killed?"
Logan stopped running and put his hands on his knees, out of breath. "Your sister brought them to you?"
"Yeah, I told her to meet me so we could find a way out. I wasn't just going to leave her. Then she gives me this 'You were going to ruin everything again' crap."
"Man, that's harsh."
"Yeah. Where are we going to go?"
"The police. We have to tell them."
"Yeah, like the police are going to believe two teenagers who escaped being turned into fertilizer."
"Then what do you think we should do?"
"Can you get your hands on a video camera?"
"Hey, I was only arrested twice out of fifty-seven times shoplifting."
Logan and Jenna went into the Wal-Mart they came to after two hours of walking. Jenna stalled the employee at the camera counter while Logan broke one off of the display, stuffed it in his uniform pants, and walked off.
"That makes fifty-eight. So now what?"
"We go back, get some footage of what they are doing, and take it to the police."
"Are you insane? I couldn't get out of that place. What makes you think we could get in and back out?"
"They think we are dead. We could walk in, and the people would think their consciences were getting to them."
"Come on, you don't believe that?"
"No, but your expression was priceless! Ok, so soon they will be bringing in 'our' fertilizer to plant the trees. We hide in the truck, get some footage of them planting the trees and our parents crying, get back in the truck as it leaves, and as soon as we are clear from Evergreen well jump out and run straight to the police."
"This could work."
