Honda wasn't stupid, despite what the school, fellow classmates, and friends might say. He knew he was the one in their group who wasn't really needed, but was kept around because sometimes when they got in situations they needed someone they could sacrifice. Honda knew this, but didn't say anything about it. He liked his friends, liked whatever kind of relationship they shared. Even if Jounouchi was with Yuugi more than he was with Honda, despite the fact the two of them had known each other longer. Even if Anzu only talked to Honda to ask what was going on in the duel monster's battle. Even if, right now, his closest friend was Ryou, the English boy with albinoism who was frequently possessed by the spirit of the millenium ring. Even if Yuugi, the one who kept them all together, never talked to him.
He didn't mind. Honda was content with what he had. He was used to getting the short end of the stick, used to just tagging along. Beggars couldn't be choosers, after all. And besides, even if Honda didn't like his position, he couldn't do anything about it, not if he wanted to lose his friendship with the others. Honda was a likeable guy, so he supposed he easily could have made some other friends. But if he did that, he would lose the friendship with the others he had now.
Because suppose he was at the arcade with another friend, when Jounouchi gives him a call on his cell phone saying something was wrong with the city or Yuugi had gone missing or something. Then Honda would have to totally blow off whoever he was currently hanging out with, or he would have to tell Jounouchi he couldn't at the moment. So either way it was lose-lose for him. And, truth be told, Honda didn't really want things to change. He had accepted long ago that he was just going to keep on being pushed back and back on the list of friends his friends had, and as much as he might not like, he had to remind himself that if he ever got in trouble, his friends would always help him out.
So maybe it was a mutual relationship. Honda got in trouble, they'd help him. Someone else get in trouble, he'd help them. And everything else didn't matter.
Although it would be kind of nice to get SOME attention. Because, come on, Jounouchi was getting more female attention then him! When Jou was getting all the ladies, it was pretty obvious things had gotten bad.
