Flakes of snow in his hair, he flicks them off. Limitless white surrounding him, he turns his back. Sun peeking but still hidden behind the clouds, he stares. Silently he stands alone in front of stone, nothing but markings etched onto it, looking grave and solemn. The markings do not represent anything in particular, just one mark for each person that had died. Each person who had given their life for the village that they loved.

He thinks and he remembers; the past they had together, the memories they had made and the smile that he could still see on her face and the tears that she had shed during their final parting. He curses her in her death, even though inside he does not mean it. Tears stream down his face, they cascade cool and chilled by the cool atmosphere but he pays no heed. He thinks of why she had to die, he thinks, why did she have to leave?

A memory crosses him and he can almost feel it. The memory of the night when he asked her to love him, to be with him; he could even remember the scent she carried, the clothes she wore and the colors and vivid lights that came into play. The vision she was when she smiled in her kimono and under the lights of the fireworks and the stars in the heavens, she said that she loved him back; she had been so beautiful then. He would never forget that moment. He could never forget that moment, for he loved her too much.

But now she was gone, nothing to hold her back in this world but the memory that her loved ones still carried and perhaps, something else. But that wasn't enough, was it? Hyuuga Neji turns around, sensing the incoming footsteps of his daughter and quickly, he wipes away his tears and gives a small smile, trying to push the memories out of his mind.

Tenten, you left your daughter behind.

And the echo of his whisper plays into the sky, the beginnings of winter's snow once again arriving. Let this snow fall and let the memories be pushed behind and kept away for another year.
