-----The Crash
The blood curdling screams were deafening to her ears and the pounding of her heart could be felt even through the trembling of her seat and the crashing of metal. Her eyes remained shut. She could not bear to open them, nor could she bring herself to do anything but pray. 'God protect me, God protect me, Lord I trust you'.
The impact of the front section of the plane hit the trees suddenly, jarring Davine forward in her seat. Many screams ceased. It seemed as if everything were in slow motion. She remembered every second, and it seemed like hours before the plane came to a stop. Silence filled her ears and she could only feel herself gasping for air and sanity. Her body felt numb and her fear was not fully realized until she cracked her eyes open. Blood covered the seats in front of her and lifeless bodies surrounded her to her left and to her right. The tears began to flow; tears of panic, tears of solitude, and tears of helplessness. Her seat, along with the others was leaded backwards. The nose of the plane was propped on the trees of the dreaded jungle. After a bit of effort, she lifted her hand and unbuckled her seat belt. She knew that this was not a safe place to be. She had to get out of here. She grabbed the seat in front of her and lifted herself to her feet. She turned around to face the rear of the plane. Her hand covered her mouth as she gasped at the bodies. Many of the rows farther back were empty. Her emotions flooded her and she peered through tear scuffed eyes.
"Is anyone else alive?" she muttered, her voice shaky. No answer. "Is anyone else alive?" she yelled louder, sobbing. Still no answer.
Holding the seats, she made her way down the isle, stepping over bodies when necessary, trying not to fall down the steep walkway provided for her. With major difficulty, she managed to reach the firm ground. Sighing with relief, Davine leaned her medium frame onto a tree just at the base of the plane. She dared not venture too far from the plane, for whoever came looking for her would start their search there. She examined her limbs, moving all of her fingers and toes to make sure that nothing was broken. Her head was spinning, but she suspected no major trauma. Letting loose her tangled brown hair from its band, exhaustion, confusion, and pain took over her and she let her eyes close out the sunlight and she unwillingly set into a state of sleep.
Unknowingly, much time had passed before her eyes shot open at an unfamiliar and threatening sound.
