Lost In Blue ( the reality)
Part two
When Keith crept back out again, he caught his foot on something and fell over, only just catching hold of a tree in time to steady himself. He peered at the floor to see what he had fallen over, hoping that it would be dry wood. He was not disappointed, it was an old, dry, root. Stuck in the ground after years of being detached from the tree. He grabbed the protruding end and pulled as hard as he could, it was not hard enough, he was too weak. He blew on his hands to get them warmer to attempt a better grip. He pulled again, this time his hands slid off the slightly mouldy bark and Keith's eyes widened in surprise as he tumbled backwards, almost into the river. Luckily enough, he hit a tree, right in the centre of his spine, the impact made his jaw jut forwards suddenly and he bit his lip, drawing blood.
As Keith sat by the tree, blinking away the dots that danced before his eyes and licking the tangy blood from his lips, he felt his breathing grow ragged and a tingling pressure behind his eyes. Keith began to cry, he was, after all, only a teenager, sixteen years old. He thought of his family and friends, luckily he had been by himself on the boat, not with anyone he knew but with plenty of other holidaymakers, at least one more of them must be on the island with him? Keith cried himself to sleep.
At dawn, Keith's eyes slowly opened and his tongue ran around his lips, re-opening the hole where he had bitten his lip the night before. He realised that his tongue had swollen and he needed food and water. He glanced over to the river, it had gone down considerably during the night and looked much cleaner that the day before. Keith hauled himself up and stumbled toward it, collapsing at the water's edge as he had done the day before, dunking his face into the water and taking large gulps, it tasted much better.
As he raised his head, flicking his dripping fringe from his eyes, he noticed that a little further downstream, there were some stones, they looked close enough together to use as stepping stones, or at least jumping stones. Keith grinned as he focused on the other side of the river, he could see that the coconut trees were plentiful on the other bank and, without further ado, he crossed the river and fell upon the grounded coconuts with lust in his eyes. Suddenly, he raised his head, he heard a noise, he was sure of it, he looked around and his breath caught in his throat, it was another person!
He ran towards the figure, shouting madly and waving his arms, "Over here! Help!" The figure responded weakly, waving back at him. His hope dwindled a little as he realised that it was not his rescuer but another person from his boat. He told himself not to be selfish and, as he drew nearer, saw that the person was a girl. "Are you all right?" he panted as he reached her.
"Well, yes, but, I can't see much, could you help me find my glasses?" he replied shyly.
'Oh no! ' thought Keith, 'she's shy', "Yes of course! Where do you think you lost them?" he replied.
"Um, I'm not really sure, on the beach somewhere though…" she said, doubtfully.
They spent the next ten minutes searching the beach for her glasses. The search came to an end when there came an ominous crunch from under Keith's foot, he inwardly swore and turned a deep shade of red, flinching and turning around to see if she had heard. She had heard.
