A Childhood Lost
Rated:K
One shot
AN: This a short one-shot Legend of Zelda fic, based on Ocarina of Time. A few times I wondered what Link thought of his predicament. He went to sleep a young kid, and woke up practically an adult. This is just a little musing on his feelings. Nintendo owns the characters and whatnot of the Legend of Zelda series.
He was just a child. The body may have changed, but the mind was still young. He was a young child, and he had a hard task to do. No one seemed to care how he felt about it, what he thought...they just gave him his task, and sent him on his way.
Outside the Temple of Time, he wept. It was all just so hard. A young child shouldn't have that responsibility. The weight of the world shouldn't rest on the shoulders of one so young. It wasn't fair. He didn't know the words to tell them these things. All he could do was sit, and cry. He was a child, and he had a job to do.
He'd been taken from the time he knew, from the friends he had. He had been deposited in this horrible future, and told he had to save it. He had to rescue a princess and defeat an evil tyrant. All he'd ever wanted was a normal life, a fairy like all the others….he'd never wanted adventure or glory. Just to fit in.
He didn't know anything about Sages, or temples. He didn't know anything about saving the world. It'd seemed so easy in the beginning. Then he drew the sword, and his whole world was turned upside down.
So, the child sat and wept, outside the temple. He wept for the childhood he'd lost, the future he didn't want. His fairy simply sat on his shoulder, trying to be as comforting as possible, but not knowing what to say.
What do you say to a child who has woken up as an adult? A child who has to save the world?
Eventually, the child's weeping ceased. He wiped his eyes, and stood up. As he walked away from the temple, a few tears still fell from his eyes. He was a young child, in the body of an adult. He was a young child….and he had to save the world.
