June 15th
Albus Dumbledore dies. The more paranoid - some may say sensible – witches and wizards stock up food and potion ingredients, and lock themselves in their homes.
July 6th
The Death Eaters, led by the Dark Lord himself, storm Azkaban and release their fellows.
July 17th
As Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour exchange wedding vows at the Burrow, the Dark Mark is conjured by Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt. After breaking the wards and allowing the Death Eaters to Apparate in, Shacklebolt kills Remus Lupin and Charlie Weasley before being killed by Nymphadora Tonks.
July 18th
Every member of the Weasley family lay dead in the burning wreckage of their home.
August 5th
Although he does not hate muggles or muggleborns, Roger Davies takes the Dark Mark out of fear for his own safety.
August 21st
Hermione Granger and her parents are murdered.
August 27th
Parvati Patil doesn't dare protest when her family betroths her to Gregory Goyle.
September 1st
The Hogwarts Express carries thirteen - down from nearly a thousand last year – children to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter is not among them.
September 7th
The Dark Lord casts the Killing Curse on Harry Potter seconds before Potter could destroy Ravenclaw's artifact, the last horcrux.
September 8th
The wizarding world is plunged into chaos. Most members of the Ministry, including the Magical Law Enforcement Squad and the Minister, stay home. The Death Eaters and other supporters of Voldemort's who hadn't yet taken his Mark destroy Diagon Alley and visit the homes of their enemies to loot, torture, rape, and murder.
September 11th
The Daily Prophet is delivered to all wizarding homes for the first time in four days. It announces the ascension of Lord Voldemort to the post of Minister of Magic and urges pureblood and half-blood citizens to return to their jobs. Muggleborns are to report to King's Cross Station the following day.
September 12th
Most muggleborns snap their wands in half and return to their muggle families. The ones who are foolish enough to show up at King's Cross Station are taken to Hogwarts and murdered. Their bodies are thrown into the lake.
September 15th
Under the Ministry's decree, all school-aged children return to Hogwarts. Using Hogwarts's registry of all children born with magical blood, Ministry representatives with Dark Marks branded on their forearms visit the homes of those purebloods and half-bloods who failed to comply with the decree. The children are sent to school and the parents to Azkaban.
September 16th
Classes resume at Hogwarts. Severus Snape teaches the Dark Arts; Horace Slughorn -who managed to re-ingratiate himself with the Dark Lord just in the nick of time - teaches Potion; Professor Sinistra and Madam Hooch retain their jobs. Narcissa Malfoy teaches Transfiguration and Walden Macnair teaches Use of Magical Creatures. Lucius Malfoy removes Dumbledore's portrait from the headmaster's office.
