Title: Ice Skating
Summary: Some one has a birthday surprise for Emma. Written in honor of my own birthday today.. Enjoy!
On Emma's fifth birthday, her mother took her ice skating for the first time.
Flashback
"Come on, honey, just get on the ice. I won't let you fall, I promise!" Spike said softly to her young daughter.
Emma took a dutiful step onto the ice. Then another. Soon, she and Spike were floating around the rink. "Mommy, this is perfect," Emma said.
"We're going to do this today every year, honey. Just the two of us."
Emma smiled. "I love you, Mommy."
"I love you too, angel."
End Flashback
In Grade Nine, when Spike married Snake, things changed. He was invited on these special mother daughter trips. He and Spike held hands and laughed- while Emma watched from the bleachers.
In Grade Ten, they were so preoccupied with Jack, they didn't even make it to the rink.
The next year, Emma awoke to tapping on her window. Standing outside, amongst the falling snow, was Jay.
"Jay, what the fuck are you doing here?"
"Emma, I know you hate me but just hear me out. I know how special this day is for you. So I have a surprise for you. I know you don't really want any more surprises from me. But, I know you'll love this one."
Emma sighed. She got dressed and followed Jay. When they got to his car, he reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a small blindfold. "You've got to be kidding me!" Emma shrieked.
"Just trust me, okay."
Emma relented and put the blindfold on. A few minutes later, she heard Jay stop the car and open her door. He took her hand and guided her for a few steps.
"Okay, you can take your blindfold off now."
Emma tore the blindfold off, now eager for her surprise.
In front of her, was the ice skating rink.
She shrieked and hugged Jay. "Oh my gosh, Jay, this is incredible! Thank you so much!"
"Anytime, Nelson, anytime. Happy Birthday"
