Best Friends Huh?

He wouldn't know a friend? He had no best friend? That wasn't true. He had a best friend. A friendship that ran so deep no one as SPD would understand it. Elizabeth. Or Z. The Best of friends needed no bracelet. Z and I had a bond that went deeper than metal could. I felt sorry for him, his friend being the liar he was. He knew Z would never lie to him. He trusted her with his life. The others couldn't understand how close they were. But why hadn't he thrown back he had a best friend called Z, or Z hadn't had piped in saying she was his best friend.

He saw a shadow appear and jumped ready in fighting stance

"Hey stranger, better put the hands down, you taught me everything I know"

"Z..uh..hey what you doing down here?"

"I could ask you the same question, but hey I'm here, cause I couldn't sleep, Syd's snoring so I will give her a while"

"Syd snores!"

"Yeah loud and sleep talks, its driving me mad, I try to sleep before her but tonight wasn't so lucky."

"Anyway I'm going back to bed"

"Oh OK, you OK Jack?"

"Yes…No…I don't know"

"OK…"

"You are my friend right, and think of me as your best friend even now we have loadsa other people around us"

"Sky's comment got to you huh? You know since being here you've changed, your so worried what people think of you now, you take everything so heavily"

"But I got to keep people safe now"

"You've always had to keep people safe, you kept me safe, this is changing you more than I admit. Sky I know can be arrogant and a show off and many other things, but at least his direct, to the point and confident in himself as a team member now, he hasn't changed one bit."

"Yeah you didn't answer my question"

"I didn't think I needed to Jack, you know me, the inside out, I don't want to lose my best friend" she took his hand "Jack you are, were and will always be my best friend and I love you now and forever and all the days in between and the reason I didn't answer stick up for you when you when Sky said you wouldn't understand the friendship"

Sky watched and listened to entire conversation. He knew Jack had a best friend. Her name was Z, they had been through thick and thin together and had never let each other down. He watched Jack smile with fondness at his best friend. He and Dru had once been like that, well maybe more of a brother love. He missed that, a bracelet meant nothing, and he knew that now. He hoped it would but he was wrong. He knew his comment always hit his teammates hard. He remembered calling Z a freak and how Z had almost had to hold Jack off him. He protected her like she was the most precious gem on earth. No questions asked, Sky had also seen through Z's character and noticed under the hard streetwise girl was a heart to help people in distress. The way she had handled Sam was great, she went looking for him and wanted to protect him a bit like a mothering instinct. She had been right, he hadn't known the difference between good and evil but he knew now. Z had befriended him and broke through the barriers. He then watched Jack start to tickle which ended up in a rough and tumble on the floor. He had to admit they had stealth even when fighting. Jack got up and pulled Z to her feet

"Time for bed Elizabeth"

Sky could feel the glare before a smile appeared on Z's face.

"Night and Jack"

"Yeah?"

"You never stopped being my best friend. Night"

"Night Z, and right back at you"

They both left and Sky came out of hiding. So Syd snored and sleep talked, hmm interesting and he disappeared into the darkness of the corridor to his room.
