He'd had to give it up. The travel, the excitement, the saving the world. The being shot at. Strangely enough, that was one of the bits he really did miss.
In an odd way, when the bad guys started shooting, his synapses fired and he almost…. He became as smart as something… really smart.
Carter.
OK, maybe not that smart, but his mind definitely worked quicker on a battlefield than it ever did in the briefing room.
He missed his team. He still saw them, of course. They'd been through so much together throughout the years, the four of them, that he doubted they'd ever lose contact completely. But there was less….team. Not cold turkey, but a definite weaning off of the team feeling.
He missed not having a desk, or at least not being aware of its existence. He missed doing paperwork in odd places; the mess hall, Daniel's office, Carter's lab. Now he did paperwork on a laptop. He had a secretary, fercryinoutloud.
But swap that for finding out Sam snores when she's not off world? He glanced at the person next to him. Throw in the fact that she snuggles…. so worth it.
