Remus Lupin had always had a certain fascination for numbers. It was one of the reasons why he took Arithmancy.
Actually, fascination was not quite the right word. There were numbers, like 12 for example, which he really liked. His birthday was on December 12th.
Then there were numbers he … despised. 3 was such a number: being the 3rd wheel, 3 nights of the full moon; 3 nights of suffering because of 1 (and this was another number he couldn't stand) bite. Once bitten and he spent most of his childhood alone. One.
After October 31st Remus wondered why he had ever liked 4. It was, after all, the sum of 3 and 1. 1 traitor and 3 betrayed.
