Every Time I Try to Say Goodbye
There's Kohta.
I wonder if he's happy I fixed the clock.
He's probably just freaked out.
Now Kohta is walking toward me.
Amazing. There is no fear, no hate, no disgust in his eyes.
There is an uncertainty though.
Is he just surprised I'm alive?
Does he think I've come back to stay?
He reaches out and touches my cheek.
I close my eyes.
Am I crying?
No!
Don't be kind.
Don't look at me with acceptance.
I don't deserve it.
Now is the time to say it!
Say it because it'll just get harder every moment that I'm here.
Just say it I keep thinking to myself.
Finally I open my mouth to say it!
"Nyu!"
What the &$.
Okay I'll try once more.
"Nyu, Nyu, Kohta, Nyu NYU"
He smiles and sighs. "Welcome back Nyu," is the first thing he says.
"Wait Kohta," I manage, "Nyu, Nyu, NYU."
I'm holding his shoulders, crying freely, trying desperately to get my point across.
Suddenly his arms are wrapped around me.
"It's okay," he says. "My childhood memories, looking back I don't think I lost them so much as I wasn't ready to accept them. I don't know if you understand me right now, but whatever you need to say, the words will come when you're ready to say them."
"Come, We still have a place for you at the dinner table. Or maybe first we should get you cleaned up. Those broken horns must be painful. Or are they like fingernails. Oh well, maybe Nana will know what to do."
Suddenly I realize, even if I could say it, even if I ran a hundred miles away, I would eventually need to rest. When I rest, she will come out. She will run back to you. Then you'll praise her for her loyalty like some cute little pet. She'll be overjoyed when you praise her, and I'll feel it too because she is I.
Why can't you turn her away?
Why can't you remind her that she is just me acting like something I'm not?
That I don't deserve your kindness.
Kohta is walking toward the door now.
He turns to me again.
"Come on Nyu! We made souma noodles."
I cheerfully run toward him.
I know I wanted to say something.
What was it?
What is the most important thing I have to tell him?
Oh yeah. It must be "Nyu likes Kohta."

I was aiming for a dark and fluffy fic. I know those two genres are supposed to be opposite one another, and the part about Nyu's little speech impediment was just plain silly.
Anyway thank-you for reading my fic and please review.
