Title: Journey of the Jedi

Author: Tally

Warnings: Pre Slash.

Category: AU, Pre-slash, drama, action adventure.

Summary: Prequel to Shadow and Love of the Jedi. Obi-Wan's transformation from Jedi apprentice into the Shadow.

Notes: This may be a bit complicated. Journey is a story that covers the time from the beginning of the JA books all the way though to the beginning of Shadow. Each part tells the events of particular stages in Obi-Wan's life. Each part can be read as a separate fic and has its own summary and warnings, but they do lead on from one another even though they are not in linier order. I think that makes sense. Basically I found Obi-Wan as Shadow interesting and I started writing about how he discovered his abilities… I thought you might be interested to. This is really a character piece with action and drama… I hope you like it. T.

Once, long ago, there was balance within the Force. The Light and the Dark existed in equal measure and there was peace in the galaxy, of a sort, because although the Light could not triumph, neither could the Dark. The Force embraced the universe and amongst its people, those who could feel its splendor, gifts were given and new abilities began to show. The Jedi, an ancient priesthood, studied and learned many of its secrets until they became warriors, using the Force to protect the innocent.

But to every Light there must be Darkness. The Sith challenged the Jedi in everything, yet with balance within the galaxy, the Sith could not win, any more than the Jedi could. However the Jedi knew that just because the Darks could not triumph that did not mean the they should not fight. An underground war raged until the Sith broke the balance that had reigned for millennia. The Sith wars devastated the galaxy; nevertheless they were defeated, conquered and believed by most to have been wiped out. Still, even with the Sith gone, balance remained elusive and the Jedi found themselves fighting a battle that they knew they may still lose.

A prophecy was made on the eve of the final battle between Sith and Jedi, by one whose name has been lost to history. A prophecy, of a Chosen One, who would restore balance to the Force. Light would once more be equal to the Dark and the Jedis' powers would not falter.

Now, centuries later, the Sith have returned, their power grows and the Jedis' has diminished. Time enough has not yet passed for it to be felt by all, but soon, the Jedi will be weak. There are those who know what lies ahead. They know that the Chosen One has been found and that time is running out. Balance must be restored, or the Dark will triumph.

Anakin Skywalker was a young slave boy, raised on Tatooine by his mother, before he was found by Maverick Jedi, Master Qui-Gon Jinn. His presence is a warning and a sign for ancient prophecies to take shape.

Long before the Chosen One was foreseen, another prophecy lived in the hearts of the Jedi, remembered now as little more than a myth, as generations have passed since it was last fulfilled. It foretells that once a generation a Force Warrior will be born. The Light and the Dark have ever vied for the allegiance of this gifted Warrior. Some are never found, some turn to the Light while others succumb to the Dark.

These Warriors are endowed with the gift of the Force, but more than that, they can hear, feel and see something beyond. Their entire being is in tune with battle, war runs in their blood, weapons skills are instinctive to their muscles. A Warrior Sith would rampage though the galaxy, while a Warrior Jedi would go where needed, both drawn to the Jedi; one to destroy, the other to protect. The Warriors do what must be done and answer to no one, only the Force. They follow no code and cannot be controlled.

It has been centuries since the last Warrior was among the powerful and, now, with the Sith resurfaced, binding the Warrior to their side has become almost paramount to the ancient foes, as their loyalty could equal victory.

For twenty-five years the Jedi have known something that the Sith did not. The Warrior was amongst them in the guise of a Jedi padawan. But, with the finding of the Chosen One, the master of the Sith has also learnt this secret; the Chosen One's coming has revealed more than his own presence.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight, Master Warrior, walks within the world, he is bound to the Light and the Jedi. He protects them as they protect the helpless. His time as Warrior is a perilous one; however the Force guards itself by choosing a Warrior irrevocable joined to the Light. In its infinite beauty, it joined two men who were destined to love each other in every universe and every time; the Force is spread between them, joining them heart, mind and soul.

Qui-Gon Jinn keeps the Warrior anchored to the Light side of the Force. The Warrior stands on the divide between the Dark and Light, the position is a dangerous one. To defend the Light he must face the Darkness. The abyss stares back as him and, if not for the love of one who is firmly within the Light, he would surely be tempted by the power before him and step over the line.

The Soulbond between the two men remains unfulfilled. The Council recognised it a decade ago, and Obi-Wan, not long after he reached his maturity, but it was not until Naboo that Qui-Gon finally understood that the beautiful song within the Force was the love he felt for his apprentice.

Legends tell of heroes, prophecies of hope or doom, myths of ages long past, but some stories are of love; unrecognised, unrequited, unfulfilled. Love means more than one lifetime for Jedi, it means their souls; and time ceases to be, when, finally, it is embraced.
