Moving On

Heyz, this is just a quick fic I felt like writing because I couldn't think of anything to write for my other fics! Sorry about updating them so late by the way! Hope you like this! It's a bit short but yeh...

Disclaimer: I totally don't own the X-Men, concrete paths or any other contraption I have mentioned in this fic but the plot (if there even really is one) is mine!

He walked briskly and didn't once turn back.

The clouds emptied their tears upon him. Cold drop after drop splashing across his face. His own salty tears mixed with those coming from above him.

Behind him, at least 10 metres away, stood his one true love. Her fragile hands held a black umbrella above her head, blocking the rain from drowning her. Her bare shoulders were exposed to the cold, her knees slightly knocking against one another. She held her empty hand out towards him, trying to pull him closer with an invisible link.

He turned slightly at the mention of his name, her green eyes shone bright amongst the dark surroundings. He shook his head and walked at a faster speed trying his best to outrun his memories, for he didn't want to remember, he couldn't remember.

Her face flashed in his mind, no, not as she was now but as she was ten years ago. Her slightly freckled nose, her dimples that came with her smile, her laugh would spread through theestate groundsand all other noises would cease to exist. She'd take his hand, and they'd search for unimaginable things together. They created new worlds, new universes, new fantasies, if only they were to escape the one they lived in. As they got older they only grew closer.

From there it only got worse, she left for college, he stayed at the institute. Never would that fantasy come true. He never got to tell her how he truly felt; she was gone in an instant.

Now he was drenched from head to toe, the rain still pouring down, his best friend, and maybe something more, standing a mere 15 metres from him.

She smiled and took two steps towards him, lowering the umbrella to rest beside her. Her flaming red hair soon lay flat against her face. Her mascara slowly smudged down her cheeks, leaving trails of black in its wake. Her smile slowly left her face, as the features on his did not change in the slightest.

"Don't leave me, Scott,"

She whimpered, her voice flowing in wisps through the wind. She took a few more steps closer.

He turned on his heel and ran. His feet pummelled against the concrete path, his heart beat faster and faster. He stared straight ahead at a black gate in the distance. He pushed harder, ran faster but he could still hear her footsteps behind him. He reached the gate and hurled himself over the top. His feet met the muddy grass with a thud. He slowly made his way through the bushes.

Then he stopped.

He stood still, the wind rustling the leaves around him. He fell to his knees and his hands covered his face. He turned to the figure behind him. She stood still; silent. He looked into her eyes again, now as dark as the night surrounding him.

"Don't leave me, Scott," she repeated softly on the verge of tears. He stood up.

"Leave me alone," he whispered, "I have to move on."

He kneeled down to the floor again, his knees sinking into the brown depths of the mud. He slowly traced the name of his one true love on her tombstone.

A tear escaped his eye and fell slowly down the grey stone.

"I have to move on."
