She's afraid that it might happen again. So terribly afraid and thus she runs. She runs as fast as she can through all of Hollow Bastion but she doesn't seem to get anywhere nor is she catching up. She's stuck in this place which she missed so very much for all those years away and she tries to call it home again.

But now that they're back in this world, their own world, it seems strange and wrong. As if they're waking the dead, coming back to these halls that are far too big and far too cold to ever be comfortable again. These halls were meant to be left alone. They are too big and it makes her feel lost again. It makes her feel small again. She had gotten so used to the crammed place they had back (home) in Traverse Town.

She's afraid that it might happen again. There is nothing she fears more than the darkness and she's still scared of the shadows in the corners even though Aerith tells her there's nothing to be afraid of anymore. But there is, and Yuffie knows it.

"Don't worry," Leon says softly as he sits on the edge of her bed, "I'll protect you."

She knows very well that she's not completely defenceless but she seems to have forgotten it when she's deeply tucked under the covers and she whispers, "You promise?"

Yuffie quickly bites her lips and wishes she hadn't said it. They all know Leon avoids that word at any cost (and they all know why) and that is why she's so very surprised when he nods slightly before muttering quietly, "Get some sleep."

They're trying to rebuild Hollow Bastion and it doesn't make sense to her. Don't go waking the dead. You can't stop the tide, she says.

Sometimes, when she's alone, she hears a voice whispering in the great, empty halls but then she realises that it is just an echoing in her mind for when she asks the others if they ever hear anything they reply that they don't. She knows that they then go and worry about her behind her back and she doesn't like that.

She tries to never be alone for the whispering halls scare the crap out of her and if she runs she doesn't have time to hear them (she's such a quick runner, she reckons and she's trying to make Cloud agree with her. It's a losing battle. It always is). She wants to get out of the place she had longed for and that is why she runs. As fast as she can.
