Title: The Dark & The Light
Author: Nervously Neurotic Girl
Fandom: Neighbours
Pairing: Paul/Izzy
Rating: PG-13 - one curse word
Author Notes: This is my first Neighbours fic but I couldn't resist the Paul/Izzy pairing. I have no idea what possessed me to write it let alone post it. If you can't follow what the heck I'm talking about, don't worry - neither can I.

There is the dark and the light. Life seeping into death into life. Dawn and dusk breathe into each other, dependent. The world turns and they become one, two polarities on the same spectrum.
(Dark and Light are attracted, sensing their opposite)
They cannot deny the light that exists in them, in both of them, apart and together.
His Dark and hers. Her Light and his. They merge and swirl because They cannot resist the other. Just as their light and dark slide inexorably to each other, they hearts mimic. One believes he never possessed a heart, a Tin Man who does not search for it in Oz because he does not want. One knows she has a heart to love, a bruised organ rejected too many times by too many unnamed (unremembered) people, for her to ever believe it capable of the Light because it is tired of what it has battled, only seeking one nights where she is All and Everything and the next morning again he cares Nothing At All.
They twist and turn together, their hearts (their minds) and they understand their Dark and Light.
Their eyes lock in the too bright morning over strong coffees the smell of alcohol lingers still on her breath, last night he cared not yet this morning, another symbol of their fucked up relationship, with all its manipulations and lies and denied vulnerabilities and they wear a facade that will eventually crack. Dark and Light. Light will eventually become Dark and Light and Dark once again.
Light will try to bend the Dark, attempt to tame that which it understands nothing of. And Dark will respond with burying that which it had previously embraced because there must be Light for Dark to ever exist. He has met his Light, with all her flaws and she has met her Dark, her other, complete with bitter resentment and grudging tenderness that he cannot repress.
Neither will utter a word of love or of their hidden need but they will remain together. As Light needs Dark, Izzy needs Paul. And as Dark depends on Light, so Paul depends on Izzy.
And others will watch as they dance and deny. Two unsettled souls. Of Dark and Light.
The End
