Volume control.
Kai Hiwatari lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling, while Linkin Park blared from his stereo. He hummed softly along to From the Inside, totally wrapped up in his thoughts. He reached over and cranked up the volume. He closed his eyes with a sigh. He loved these times where he could just listen to music and think. Suddenly Max burst through the door, huge grin on his face.
"Hi Kai!" he yelled, jumping on the bed, seriously winding the pale teen sprawled beneath him.
"Hello Max," Kai replied, rubbing his stomach. "Why are you in my room?"
"I found this website I thought you'd like. Want to see? Want to see?" the blonde boy answered in childishly high spirits.
"Erm... no thanks," Kai replied, remembering the last website.
"Oh, but it's cool," Max whimpered, reverting to chibi-mode, which was adorable to say the least.
"I said no," Kai replied, herding him out of the room.
He sat back down on the bed, annoyed. He'd had to stop the music, since his stereo didn't have a pause button. He started the next song and turned up the volume again. A blissful 5 minutes of peace and quiet before a soft knock on the door reached his ears. He didn't move, hoping that whoever was on the other side would take the hint and leave him alone. They didn't, and the door opened to see a thoroughly confused looking Rei, a text-book clutched in his hand.
"Hey Kai, have you got any notes for the science test tomorrow? I managed to leave mine in my form room," Rei asked.
When Kai didn't move, Rei walked up to the bed and shook him, saying, "Kai? Did you hear me?"
"Yes I did. They're in my bag. Don't come in like that again, ok?" Kai murmured in a softly dangerous voice.
"Ok... I'll be leaving now," Rei replied sheepishly, before darting out of the room.
Kai was now seriously irritated, having had to stop the music again. He sat back down on his bed, determined to not answer the door again that evening. He had no sooner made that promise, when his boyfriend, Tyson, burst into the room. He had his normal 10-watt grin in place, and was waving Dragoon in Kai's face.
"Hey Kai-koi. Wanna beybattle?" Tyson grinned.
"No. Get out of my room," Kai grunted.
"Awww, come on! You're no fun, you know that?" Tyson moaned, pouting.
"Look. I'm just sick... and... tired... of everyone barging into my room," Kai muttered, trying to rein his temper in.
"Okay, okay. I'm going," Tyson murmured grumpily, stamping out of the room.
Kai stood up and cranked up the volume to maximum. He was getting really tired of these disturbances. He lay down on his bed, the music bombarding him from all sides. He hoped that no-one would disturb him this time... no such luck. Kenny wrenched open the door, a peeved expression on his face.
"Turn it down! I can't hear myself think!" he yelled, before noticing Kai's unnaturally stiff posture.
"What does a guy have to do to get a little privacy?" he growled, staring at Kenny from behind his bangs, an evil psychotic look in his eyes.
"I think I'll leave," Kenny whimpered, backing away slowly.
"Good idea. And tell the others that when I turn up my music, I'd like a little privacy," Kai smirked, strangely reminiscent of his grandfather.
Kenny nodded weakly, then ran out of the room, door ajar. Kai settled back down onto the bed, cracking his knuckles.
"Finally," he muttered to himself.
