Disclaimer: Not mine...I don't own anyone!
Author Notes: The first few lines popped into my head and wouldn't leave me the heck alone, until I wrote something down...so here it is...sorry if it really sucks. I'm sure I took plenty of liberties. It's been forever since I wrote anything, I just had not inspiration, but I got the DVD, and after seeing it once, I was able to write something. Another story will probably be comming soon, as well as another chapter of Tears. Becky, that song fic I was talking about, I think I'll write another time.
Jaded
Warren watched the world through jadded eyes. It must have been so rough for him. To have to watch things on the outside, and never join in. To know that he wasn't wanted. That's what caught Josie Stronghold's attention. Not the boy's heritage, or his streaked hair, not his tatoo's or his peircings. What caught her attention where his jadded eyes. She could remember the first time she'd ever met Baron Battle's son. One of the last times Josie ever saw his mother, Warren was only four. He was still happy then. Still able to be a little boy.
She wondered if his parents even cared. If his father cared he forced Warren to go from four to twenty four. Did his mother care about the damage she did when she killed herself. Did his parents care how damaged their son was? How painful his eyes were to look at. How old they were, how hollow. It hurt to watch Warren try and function in their home. To watch that there were families that worked out, his just wasn't one of them.
She always wondered who took care of Warren. When he was sick, who fussed over him. When he was scared, who held his hand? She could imagine Warren as a child, alone, afraid, maybe sick, and having to rely on himself and no one else. She knew, that obviously as a child, Warren lived with an adult, but by the way Warren carried himself, she didn't think the adult did much parenting.
Josie wanted to tell him that he was ok. That he would be a wonderful superhero. She wanted to tell him he wasn't his father. She wanted to be able to give him another start. she wanted him to be able to live normally. Or at least, as normally as a super hero can. She wanted to be able to go back in time and fix his life. She wanted to make his eyes not so jadded. She wanted a smile to touch his eyes. She knew she couldn't go back in time and do any of those things. So all she could do was try and make him feel as at home in her home as possible.
Josie watched as Will and Warren did homework, arguing about it. She smiled slightly. Warren wasn't a loner anymore. Whether that was by his choice or not, was still up in the air. As much as Steve might flinch at the thought of him in the house, he's never turned him away. He'd smile and try to joke with him. To which, Josie could see, was a relief to both Will and Warren. She imagined, Warren got turned away more times than he didn't, and he probably thought it was inevitable at the home of the man who put his father behind bars.
The little boy she'd met long ago, was gone. Grown up to fast, and in his place, was a young man, with bitter jadded eyes.
