No Matter What
"You think… There's a happy ending for us?"
Inuyasha cocked his head, a confused look crossing his face. "Whaddya mean?"
Kagome paused, and carefully reselected her words, "What I mean is, when… When this is over, what will happen to us? The fight with Naraku, and all the shards of the Shikon jewel have been collected…"
Shrugging his shoulders, Inuyasha said, "Well, time will tell, won't it?"
Kagome frowned, "But, what if I can't come back here anymore?"
Unconsciously, Kagome began to fret and started pacing back and forth, "What if, after I'm not needed here anymore, the well won't let me come back? What if we never see each other again? What if, what if - "
A strange look crossed Inuyasha's eyes and he grabbed onto Kagome, hugging her tightly, and said awkwardly, "Silly, don't worry so much… I'm here, for you, see? Always."
Kagome stood rigidly and then smiled softly. Inhaling the unique smell of Inuyasha that she loved so much, she buried her head onto his shoulder and returned a hug. "Always?" she asked, like a child in need of assurance, "No matter what happens?"
Hearing Kagome's words, a smile too crossed Inuyasha's face.
"Of course"
