A/N: Here's a Rory/Marty fic, in my classic style: short one shot. As I'm usually an L/L writer, this is my first R/M, so feedback would be great.

"It's a leap of faith

When you believe there's someone out there

It's a leap of faith

When you believe that someone cares."

- Michelle Branch, 'Leap of Faith'

Marty stood, leaning against the cab door, having an internal debate on whether to get in or not.

In his mind, he knew that if he didn't act, Logan would. Logan was already weaseling his way into Rory's life, trying to gain her attention.

And it was working.

He was going to lose her if he didn't do something.

"Marty?"

He shook his head, Rory's voice drawing him from his reverie. "Yeah?"

"You coming?"

Marty paused for a moment before nodding. "Yeah. I am." He said before sliding in next to her, shutting the door firmly behind him.

They got out of the cab at Branford, after Marty paid the fare. Rory protested, arguing that it was her fault they were out in the first place. But Marty insisted, and in the end Rory gave in.

He walked her to her room as any chivalrous man would. When they reached the door, Rory paused before entering. She turned to Marty. "I'm so sorry for dragging you around town for nothing."

"It was no problem." It really wasn't. He was compelled to add anything to spend time with you.

"You sure?" she inquired.

"Definitely. It was the highlight of my evening."

"Thanks anyway." She gave Marty a hug. What surprised him, though, was how she kissed him on the cheek. He hoped it was dark enough that the pink tinge on his cheeks didn't show.

"You're welcome."

"Well… I'll see you."

Marty nodded. "Yeah."

Rory turned to go inside, but Marty impetuously reached out and stopped her with a hand on her shoulder. "Would you…would you like to, you know, have dinner… or something some time? With…with me?" He stumbled over the words as they flew out of his mouth.

Needless to say, Rory was somewhat shocked. This was Marty, after all. This could screw things up. Bad.

But, she thought, isn't this what happed with her mother and Luke? And look where they are now.

Marty. She did think, however, that a date with a friend wouldn't end up nearly as bad as a date with a stranger. Rory still hadn't forgotten the Trevor incident of '03.

After weighing her options, she gave him a little half-smile. "I'd like that."

He grinned. "Good. I'll – I'll call you."

She nodded. "Okay."

"So, I'll see you later, then."

"Definitely. Bye, Marty." Rory said as she entered her room. After shutting her door, she distinctly heard Marty whisper,

"Yes!"
