The Queen of Hearts.

Alice began to make her way back and out of Wonderland for the final time. She daintily stepped over a cluster of giant emerald green lily pads, clutching the skirts of her dusty blue dress and admiring the great white floating flowers for the very last time. Alice paused to brush a strand of fair hair from her eye. As she stood there balancing on the slippery leaf, she heard a loud rustling behind her. Turning slowly around Alice the enormous deep crimson and black skirts and the Queen of Hearts racing towards her like some angry beast. Alice's heart leapt; she had to get away but her feet were refusing to move. As the monster drew nearer at an alarming speed, Alice's feet a last began to respond to her commands, leaping swiftly over the glistening lily pads to a bank of slanting reeds and grasses.

"You stop this instant!" cried the familiar bark of the Queen as she approached the ditch, her many petticoats flailing behind her in what Alice's governess would describe as 'most un-ladylike.'

"Wait! Stop now! Alice –please."

Alice turned; astonished at the sound of a word that was most uncommon in this curious world. She became even more alarmed at the sight of the Queen of Hearts herself, kneeling by the bull-rushes, her raven hair a tangled mess, and her porcelain face blurred by the collection of fresh tears which were now streaming down it.

"Please." She begged.
