He felt the cool barrel pressed against his lips, the metallic tang familiar on his tongue. He'd tasted it before.
/He should be on his mettle…/The hand holding the weapon dropped back onto his lap and slipped it under the pillow. He looked around his dead son's room with unseeing eyes – the baseball glove, the trophies and awards, the worn out copy of the Wizard of Oz, bookmarked and unfinished on the shelf.
/And yet I'm torn apart…/"Sir, you've been reactivated," The voice behind him.
/Just because I'm presuming that I could be kinda human…/Reactivated. A chance to die with the honor he no longer deserved. The emptiness inside his chest would succeed in consuming him. Nothing more to hold him to this world.
/If I only had a heart…/
