Hello. This is a short, drabble-ish ficcie, and not really that good. I just decided to post this up here to see what you guys thought. I'm in the middle of writing a longer fic, which hopefully will be posted up here soon. It's also Clef-centered (as I love him) but it's more of a humor fic, especially at the beginning.

Enjoy!

There was a reason that he never talked about his past.

No one at the Castle really ever found out a thing about his past- and it wasn't for lack of trying. Not at all…

Lantis was the only one who knew a bit about the story… but he wasn't telling.

Lantis' past was almost as painful.

-- --

He learned at the very beginning that you never wanted to show your weakness. If you did, that would be your downfall.

And he would not fall- not again.

So he kept his feelings, his weaknesses, all bottled up inside, and he never, ever, let them out.

-- --

So that was how he lived, for most of his life.

Cold. Emotionless.

That was how he slowly worked his way to the top- and earned the respect of everyone in Cephiro.

-- --

Then… he was put in charge of a girl.

Her name was Emeraude.

She was just a young girl, yet she was chosen as the Pillar of the entire world of Cephiro. She was so young, too young, he sometimes thought, yet perhaps that was the reason why she was chosen.

She was pure. Her heart was pure.

And after watching over her for, many, many, many, years, she began to teach him something.

Maybe, just maybe, it is all right to care…

-- --

Perhaps it was the Magic Knights that finally did him in.

They were young, probably younger that Emeraude had been. But they were brave, and loyal, and willing to die for a country that they barely knew.

They were probably the ones who finally showed him that- yes, it is all right to care.

One of them in particular. Umi. The Water Knight.

He never understood why it was that she attached herself to him.

Or why she seemed to make it her mission to befriend him- something that only three people in all of his seven hundred odd years had managed to do.

Yet, Umi, the loud, obnoxious, whining, sweet, loyal, caring girl managed to do just that: she became his friend… and perhaps more.

It was Umi who finally managed to teach him that it is all right to care.

It is all right to love.
