Hi. This is my first fanfic, so be gentle! Just to let ya know, this will eventually have several different versions of itself. My OC is mine, and it'll become a Kakashi/OC story. It's during the timeskip, 6 months before Naruto returns to Konoha. Probably spoilers for those who haven't seen that part yet. Review!

Shield and Sword
Prologue
"So basically you're selling me to this God-forsaken shinobi village for the secret of a medical ninjutsu you've been after for years?" Hatake Kakashi's one visible eyebrow was raised. Tsunade sighed, rubbing her temples, wishing she had a sake bottle.
"It isn't that simple, Hatake. The Light Country's been searching for the Tenkage's heir for years. Their jounin are good, of course, but no match for Sound—or any of the other major shinobi villages, for that matter. They need this alliance to work. Having you as guardian is as good as keeping their new Tenkage alive."
"I thought she hadn't been made Tenkage yet."
"Just a formality."
Kakashi saw Tsunade's hesitation and knew she was keeping something back from him—and from the look of aggravated tension on her deceptively young face, it was probably important.
"Tell me."
It was an undeniable command.
"There are two—unique—things about this girl."
"Such as?"
"Well, for one thing, she's not a shinobi."
He stared.
"You've got to be kidding me. She's not even a kunoichi and they're going to make her their kage?"
"It's different from other villages, Kakashi. It's passed by blood, not necessarily by strength. She's the only legitimate blood heir left of that line."
Kakashi, she could tell (God knows how), was scowling.
"And the other unique thing about her?" he asked sarcastically.
"Her bloodline… The last great Tenkage, her ancestor, was 3 generations ago. Every ancient scroll in all of the ancient villages named her ancestor, Tenkage Kaede, as 'the most powerful shinobi to ever walk the earth.' Her bloodline limit is apparently in the habit of skipping generations, making most heirs almost without any notable strength, to suddenly be reborn in a single heir that could destroy all shinobi. If it follows the same erratic pattern… this girl's power will rival the Kyuubi."
Kakashi ran a hand through his hair, frustrated.
"If she's that powerful, what am I there for?"
Tsunade gave him a wry grin.
"Because they don't know for sure. She could be the next great Tenkage, or she could just be a poor civilian girl that's been dragged—quite unwillingly—into a world she doesn't even understand. None of us know anything much about her."
"This just keeps getting better and better. What information did the village send us?"
Tsunade pushed a folder over to him. He flipped it open, reading the scant information out loud.
"Name: Shinjin. Age: 17. Height: 5' 2". Weight: 100 lbs. This tells me absolutely nothing about her."
Tsunade gave him a half-sad, half-feral grin.
"Well, Kakashi, you've got all the time in the world to get to know her. She's your mistress."
End Prologue
So… You like? No like? Sorry it's so short, but I'm going to try to make my actual chapters much, much longer. Besides, this is my first published fanfic. A generation is every 40 years, so 3 generations ago in the Naruto-verse the story's set in would make the last great Tenkage approximately 120 years ago, pre-Sannin and Sandaime.
