Sara enjoyed being layered with attention, in fact she craved it. She was prone to jealously and envy when she felt she was being pushed aside for someone else. Which was why when Nick got the promotion instead of her, it stung. Being pushed aside for someone else always made her slightly angry.
Sara wasn't really popular around the lab. Sure almost everyone knew who she was, that didn't meet they liked her. It never really bothered her because she rarely dealt with the same person twice unless they were a lab tech or had an administration position.
Life was wonderful until she had to deal with the swing shift folks. Days were under Ecklie for the longest time so there was some sort of rivalry between days and nights.
To make a long story short she was going to be stuck with the vultures for hours and it was all thanks to Sofia.
Sofia had recently received a promotion and her old co-workers wanted to hold a celebration for her. Now Sara had nothing against that, the problem she had was that Sofia insisted she attend as well.
So on Tuesday afternoon she went to the celebration, who she was kidding it was more like she had been dragged.
She did receive some looks almost wondering what she was doing there. It was almost enough to make her want to leave; she always hated to be watch and when people tried to figure her out.
Before she could run, Sofia came over all smiles in that lovely red dress she had. She then proceeded to drag Sara to the table and insisted that Sara sit beside her on her right.
Sara found she couldn't argue, especially when Sofia was smiling at her like that. Almost like there was nothing that could make her happier than having Sara here with her.
After all, hadn't Sofia admitted to wanting Sara for the longest time?
So maybe nothing could make her any happier than Sara being here willingly.
In the corner of her eye, she could see some of Sofia's old coworkers looking at the two of them. Probably thinking this is just a passing fancy and that thought-made Sara's stomach turned. She might have thought that in beginning but it was more than that. Somewhere along the line things had changed. There had been a time that when Sofia smiled it was for Sara's disadvantage but now it was for her gain. Seeing Sofia smile was now something she looked forward to.
She never wants to miss another smile on those lips again.
Sofia leaned forward and put her hand over Sara's hand. "You look so beautiful when you smile."
Sara was dumb folded by Sofia's words. She hadn't even realized she was smiling until Sofia pointed it out to her. Sofia's smiles must be contagious.
Then there was the underlying meaning of Sofia's hand on top of her hand. It was almost communication in a league of its own.
I'm glad you came you don't know how much it means to me that you're here with me.
Sara couldn't help but smile at the hidden message that was so clear. Much as Sofia wanted Sara to come, she would never force her. Sara didn't think Sofia could even if she wanted to.
Sofia was afraid of scaring her off, truly making their relationship a passing thing. Sara gave Sofia's hand a firm squeeze.
Of course I came I'll always come because I know how much it means to you. If it's important to you then it's important to me.
