Fighting your Monsters
The sky was sunny, and it was just like any other day in plain old Endsville. It seemed like a peaceful normal town with the usual people that do usual things. However, this is NOT where our story takes place. The scene actually takes place deeper into the depths of the Underworld, which was in fact anything BUT usual.
A small boy that was made entirely out of bones, that's right BONES, was creeping past the living room. The skeleton child was wearing a black hoodie that was somewhat torn, with long jeans that were also black and torn. Right at the left of his eye socket was a bruise. Grim Jr. was in deep trouble, and I mean deeper than any one could fathom. It wasn't because that his father was in fact the Grim Reaper. He seemed tame compared to his mother. Mandy. That was the name of the dark queen of all dimensions that instilled fear throughout the entire universe.
Oddly though he knew he wouldn't get in trouble for fighting. He would get in trouble for being pushed around though. He remembered the last time he was bullied, by a young man named Slug, who was the son of Spurg. After she beat the crud out of Slug and Spurg, she told her crying son these words. "I don't want you to bother me with stuff like this anymore. It is disgraceful that you can't be able to take care of a pathetic human, you have to learn to fight your own monsters." Grim Jr. couldn't stand the thought of his mother being disappointed in him so he kept every battle to himself.
The skeletal child crept halfway by the hall way when… "Jr. Please come in here" Busted. He crept up to her chair and stood facing the ground. "Let me see your face." He slowly faced his mother. She then asked "What happened?" "Mom…I… was on my way home when this dark shadow monster attacked me. I did the best I could, Honest, but he was to powerful…I am sorry."
Then the Queen of the Underworld did the most unusual thing. She hugged him.
"Don't apologize, The God of Nightmares is a powerful being, he is nearly invincible." "But I wasn't able to fight my own monster."
"Son, there will be monsters you have to face, there are some that you can defeat alone, there are others that you can't face alone. I am not always going to protect you because sometimes you have to fight alone. This time it would have been impossible. When it is impossible that is when you come get me. Understand?"
"I understand," said the smiling skeleton as his mother let go of her embrace.
"Now," she said as she grabbed the Scythe "I am going to have a little chat with Orpheus."
