The Fight
Alan Eppes let tears flow freely down his face. A nurse escorted him to the front doors of the hospital where he had been staying as cancer finally won the battle for his wife's life.
The fight had been a long, suffering one for the Eppes family. His youngest son's dealt with the illness by hiding in the garage with his chalkboards. Don, his older son, made an unconscious effort bury himself in work.
"I want you to meet other people," Margaret's voice haunted.
Alan closed his eyes. "Margaret, I'm not even sure I can handle the boys without you."
