I wonder if they realise that they're in love? I don't think so, I've certainly never seen any indication that they do, but it's there if you know what to look for.
Neither of them seem to have noticed it but I have. I've noticed the fact that in briefings, they sit so close to each other that their arms and shoulders constantly brush. I've noticed the squeeze of a shoulder after a particularly long day or difficult mission.
I've noticed the teasing and arguing that remind me of nothing so much as an adolescent boy trying to get the attention of the girl he likes.
I've noticed the looks. All sorts of looks from affectionate smiles to 'if looks could kill you would be as dead as the Wraith on that last hive ship we blew up' glares.
I've noticed that when they eat together they'll steal food from each other's plate without seeming to be aware of it.
I've noticed that when one is in danger the other is always there, doing everything they can to get them out of it, even if it means putting their own life on the line.
I've noticed that when one of them is in the infirmary, whether it's for something as simple as getting an aspirin for a headache or something as serious as almost getting killed on their latest off-world mission, the other is never far away. Whether they're sitting in a chair by the side of the bed waiting for the occupant to wake up or trading off smart comments about whatever went wrong that time, they're there.
Most of all I've noticed the connection and it's that connection that keeps them going. It's the connection that enables them to keep on putting their lives on the line every single day in this fight for survival.
It's the connection that tells them that, no matter what happens, they're not alone and that there is something worth fighting for.
And it's that connection that I envy the most.
The End
A/N: This was written in my head as Elizabeth watching John and Rodney but I suppose you could use it to fit just about any characters on the show.
