Title: Passing Notes Day/Theme: November 29 / My dear lady disdain
Series: Anne of Green Gables
Character/Pairing: Anne Shirley / Gilbert Blythe
Rating: G
Notes: Standard Disclaimers apply. I have always loved this particular novel by L.M Montgomery. Anne Shirley reminds me so much sometimes of myself, especially in how stubborn she can be at times. I hope you guys enjoy this! x-posted over at 31 days. See my profile for more info.

He glanced over to where she was poring over her workbook, her shoulders hunched down in fierce concentration. Her back was turned to him but he could imagine how her delicate eyebrows would meet stubbornly over a lovely nose dusted by freckles. He imagined the way her eyes sparkled grey and green against her pale complexion and high cheekbones.

Anne Shirley did not consider herself a delicate flower or the kind of girl to fill any boy's dreams, but for Gilbert Blythe, she was perfect.

He wanted very badly to get to know her, but he knew her pride was wounded after he had made such fun of her hair. Sighing, he tore off a sheet from his workbook and scribbled an apology, hoping that she would find favor and forgive him.

He passed it over to Josie Pye, telling her to pass it to Diana Barry and then to Anne. When Josie Pye made a motion to read the note, Gilbert sent her the iciest glare he could manage. The note was passed from trembling hand to trembling hand and Gilbert waited with bated breath as Diana tapped Anne on the arm and passed her his note.

He saw her small shoulders straighten up and stiffen as she opened the note, nodding over it briefly and then tearing it to shreds. She then turned around to glare at him, her eyes flashing. Gilbert then realized that it would take a lot more than just a note to ask for Anne Shirley's forgiveness.

Well, he thought, there's always tomorrow.
