What Bring They….?
What bring they from beyond the sea?
I fear it means but death for thee,
O, serpent love, o wing-ed born
Of silver tooth and ivory horn;
I fear that they bring death with they,
Those who come from wat'ry way.
What bring they from countries far?
I fear 'tis but a fate-crossed star:
A star of hate and fear and war,
Which leads them to our nearest shore
O, serpent love and wing-ed born
O silver tooth, it's thee I warn:
A mortal's death's not meant for thou,
Though that's all that remains here now…
Oh, what bring they upon these shores?
Naught but hate and death and wars.
Pain and death I fear for thee,
Brought by those beyond the sea;
They slay you now, like hunted Hart,
Yet remain a curse-ed world apart,
And slay your young, still stone and gem:
Death and Pain are wrought by them.
O, serpent-love, o wing-ed born
O, silver tooth, o ivory horn;
Who still now scrape the grandest skies
And bring fresh tears unto my eyes
For what then shall become of thee
When finally gone at last are we?
For we who made the magic words
Now march unto out deaths unheard.
O, serpent-love and wing-ed born
It is but for thee I mourn;
When we are gone, the Folk of Grey,
I fear that thou shalt come our way.
For death they bring across the sea,
Death and pain and agony,
With pointed ears and hair of night.
I fear the world shall ne'er be right,
If wing-ed born and Grey Folk die,
For night is cold and dark grows nigh.
O, serpent-love, o wing-ed born
O, silver tooth, o, ivory horn;
Death they bring and death they flee
From their land beyond the sea.
