Beneath the Cherry Blossoms

A gentle breeze stirred the blossoms of the cherry tree. A lone flower wafted on to the open palm of the young man standing beneath the tree. The man wasn't tall, but his appearance was striking- the most notable feature: his large almandine eyes. His well sculpted face was framed by jagged, golden bangs; his lips, curved into a wistful smile. His eyes widened slightly as for on instant he thought he had seen a girl smiling at him from the petals of the cherry blossom: her long brown hair billowing delicately around her face; her sparkling blue eyes, laughing. He looked at the cherry blossom as though he had never seen a thing so beautiful, nor would ever see one quite so again. He blinked. The cherry blossom was just that, a cherry blossom. No beautiful girl in sight.

Unknown POV

'He looked at me with such tenderness and amazement. As though I was precious to him. I swore then and there that he would look upon me in such a manner again someday, then the breeze blew me away from his hand.'

1 Year later

A beautiful spring morning with azure skies. A cherry tree in bloom. A man standing beneath the tree. The same man I had seen a year ago. His stance: royal; his eyes still stunning though they appeared to be searching. Could it be?

Half-afraid I walked from behind the tree. His eyes widened a little when he saw me and I could only hope it was a good sign.

Yami POV

'…And there she was. The girl that had been haunting my dreams. The girl whom I have been longing to see again from the moment I laid eyes on her a year ago. Strange magic is at work here and yet…She was that cherry blossom I held a year ago. The one I could not hold on to. Still, I know it's her. Her beautiful eyes are unmistakable. Unforgettable. She must be the spirit of this tree who showed herself in that blossom.'

I take a step toward her, praying she won't run. She smiles. I take her hand and whisper:

"I finally found you. I love you…my only…cherry blossom…"

She smiles again.

"Téa. My name is Téa."
