A/N: For akamarykate's excellent guesses on my song meme. Sorry I couldn't work the Miguel angle…but the "wet concrete" prompt was certainly an inspiration!
He'd never been a big fan of cats. Even as a kid, he'd bugged his parents for a rusty collie or a faithful lab. A testy tomcat hadn't even made the list.
But as he looked out his window over the dreary expanse of Chicago in autumn, the wet concrete of the sidewalk giving way to the exhaust covered windows of warehouses and the mottled blur of the El, he couldn't help but wonder if he'd had it all wrong.
Who'd have known then that scratching the ears of an annoying and persistent feline companion could banish smog and drizzle?
