Forget Me Not

Prologue

Hiiro stared absently at his desk, his laptop open, papers scattered everywhere. He was vaguely aware of his telephone ringing, a distant sound, too far out of his mind to fully breech his thoughts.

He looked down at his hand, tightly clenching a crumpled peice of paper. He checked the action, doing his best to smooth the paper out.

A beautiful blonde with sparkling blue eyes and a mischevious smile stared back at him. How had the picture gotten in his desk? Hadn't he gotten rid of it years ago?

He sighed---an unusual display of emotion for the normally stoic soldier---tucking the picture in to his pocket. He thought he had let that part of himself go, so many years ago.

Minako, he thought. Let me be... it's been seven years, just let me be!

"Mina-chan!" Usagi cried, grabbing Minako's arm. "Why do you have to leave?"

"Because," Minako said distantly. "Something's come up. I have to deal with it, that's all."

"Minako," Rei said, prying Usagi from the blonde. "You know you can tell us if something is wrong."

Minako gave them a reassuring smile. "I know, Rei-chan," she said, piling the last of her bags in to the backseat. "Everything's fine."

Rei looked hesitant, as if she wanted to believe her, but didn't know if she should. "Alright then," she said finally, heaving a small sigh. "When will you be back?"

"I'm not sure," Minako said, tucking a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear. "A week, maybe."

"Keep an eye on Artemis for me, would you, Usa?" Minako asked, climbing into her small car.

Usagi nodded, leaning her head in the passenger window. "Be careful," she said.

"I will, Usa-chan." she said, waving to them as she started to drive away.

Her grip on the steering wheel was tight, making her knuckles turn white. When she'd heard the news, she could barely believe it. Could Hiiro really be getting married? She sighed, blinking back tears.

Oh God, Hiiro, don't let it be true...
