Goodbye To A Friend

AUTHOR'S NOTES: I don't have much to say about this story, except that all characters are (C) by me & shouldn't be used without asking me first (thanks in advance for that).

We had been together for more than 86 years, Jellybean & I. My dear pal had been helpful to me a lot during the difficult spots, & he was always there to enjoy the good times with me.

And now, Jellybean was about to leave me...forever.

Jellybean had been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease for quite some time, but now the sickness was really starting to take its toll--J.B. didn't have much time to live.

Yoko Bono, Lucy Graham, my wife Star Catsopolis, & my children Morris & Grace all stood by the bed, watching Jellybean slowly fade away.

The kids, Star, Yoko, & Lucy were able to tell Jellybean "farewell" already, but time was running out for my chance to bid my friend one last "goodbye".

As the elderly mouse looked at me with a tired expression on his face, Jellybean let out a small, weak grunt of happiness.

The disease had rendered Jellybean mute & unable to talk, but I could tell he was trying to say "Willie, thanks for sticking with me all these years. And I'll always be with you."

"I know, J.B.," I replied as I nodded, bit my lip, & fought back tears of sorrow. "I know...& I promise that I'll see you again someday real soon, friend."

Jellybean smiled weakly at me, before leaning back into the bed, & closing his eyes, sinking off into blissfully eternal slumber...

Jellybean's eyes struggled to stay open, then closed forever as I whispered tearfully, "Goodbye, Jellybean."

Jellybean's paw went limp in my hand just as his pulse decreased, his breathing stopped, & Big Ben's clock began to strike noon outside by my penthouse.

As I gazed upon the lifeless body of my old friend, I let out the tears I had bottled up for so long.

Jellybean was now out my life forever.

But I knew that forever would not last very long, & someday soon, like I promised my friend, I would see Jellybean again...we all would.
