Hush, now

"I can't hear!"
"What's he saying?"
"Ssh, both of you!"

"Shizuru—"

"Yes, Hiei-sama?"

His brow creased nearly imperceptibly at the honorific. "For once, would you…try to listen?"

A chestnut eye glinted merrily. "Why should I? You've never had anything important to say BEFORE…"

"Ooh, he's gonna tell her something important!"
"I bet he—"
"Hush, now, he's speaking again!"

He glared at her. "This time…never mind. You're obviously not interested." The demon crossed his arms and turned his back on her.

"Aaw, c'mon, Hiei! You know I didn't mean it!" she cajoled. "I want to hear what you need oh-so DESPERATELY to say."

"I told you, it's NOTHING."

"It's not NOTHING, Hiei. I've never seen you this flustered."

He bristled. " 'Flustered'? I am not 'flustered', onna."

"It's so cute!"
"Can you see?"
"Not really!"
"Oh, I can!"
"Is he as flustered as she says?"
"Yes!"
"PLEASE be quieter! I want to hear!"

"Do you hear something?" she asked, frowning.

Hiei shook his head, glad for the distraction. Then he paused, head tilted towards the crack in the door. His eyes narrowed and he held out a hand to keep her from investigating.

"Hiei—"

With one swift movement, he had the door open and was holding Botan and Keiko by each one's respective hair, smoldering murder in his eyes.

The blue-haired girl pulled an innocent face. "Um, hello Hiei! We were just…"

"…Studying. In the hallway," the other put in.

"Now could you PLEASE let go of our hair?" Botan requested sweetly.

Shizuru raised an eyebrow at Hiei and he grudgingly released the two girls, but not releasing his glare.

"We didn't hear anything at all!" Keiko added quickly.

"Not a single little thing!" Botan agreed, equally rapidly.

Moments later, they were both sitting in a very dark, very locked closet where they could hear nothing of the couple they had been attempting to spy on.

"Well THIS sucks."

Yukina smiled silently to herself as her eye returned to the crack in the door, watching the mismatched two embrace, if somewhat awkwardly. It paid to be quiet.
