Prologue - Enchantress
She stared down into the creature's wide, frightened eyes. A sigh escaped her lips.
"I am sorry," and she truly was, "but it cannot be reversed, not even by my hand." She sighed again, closing her eyes. "The terms of the spell are set, and they must be fulfilled."
The beast stared up at her, milky eyes shining with sudden hope. She gazed back sadly, mournfully.
"You must come to love one who is despised of men, and you must earn the love of one who has no reason to give it. But with this form..." She sighed again, the beast's eyes following the hand that lifted to rest on its furred head. "With this form, that is a terrible task indeed..."
Her face was blank, but her eyes spoke volumes of pity for the being before her. She watched as the hope became confusion, then realization, and then finally despair.
She left the castle the way she had come, walking quietly straight out the front gates. She paused for one moment and glanced back at the high stone walls.
"May the years be kind to you," she murmured, and brought her fingers to her lips in farewell. Then Midoriko turned and strode from the castle grounds, never looking back.
Her final words sealed the magic behind her.

Just because everyone needs to do a 'Beauty and the Beast'-type Inuyasha fic at some point. So here's mine. And I don't want to hear anything about the corny title. It's decidedly un-creative, and I am perfectly happy to leave it that way :P
