Laundry Day
Jack Hudson was positive that his washing machine was possessed. With five loads of laundry that needed to be done, he didn't have the time for this.
"You rang?" Sue's voice came from the doorway.
Now there was something that he did have the time for. "Yeah," he said turning to face her, "thanks for coming on such short notice."
"No problem, an emergency is an emergency," Sue smiled at him. She instructed Levi to sit and then went to stand beside Jack and peered inside the machine. "What's wrong with it?"
He touched her arm to get her attention. "It won't start," he said.
"Hmm," she glanced at the settings he had chosen and stopped at the last one. She pulled the knob and water immediately began to flow. She set her hands on her hips, satisfied and smiled sweetly at the flabbergasted man.
"That's it?"
"I'm guessing this washing machine is new?"
"Yeah…how about I say thanks by taking you out for lunch. It's a beautiful day," he suggested, not quite ready to say goodbye yet.
"A free meal?" It'd be stupid to pass that up."
Jack unlocked his front door and let Sue in. "Thanks for lunch, Jack." Sue smiled.
"Don't mention it. It was my pleasure," Literally.
"How 'bout we check on your laundry?"
They walked to the laundry room and jack opened the door. Suds and foam spilled into the hallway, burying their feet. Levi barked and backed up as if he was afraid of it. Jack groaned, "Aww no." He stepped further into the room to inspect the damage and Sue followed cautiously.
"Hmm, say, how much detergent did you put in?"
"Umm…do I have to answer that?" he asked as he watched more suds pool from under the lid. He was reaching to turn the washing machine off when it switched to the next cycle, emitting a quick beep. Unfortunately, that was enough for Levi to think he had to notify Sue. He leapt forward into the room but wasn't anticipating the slippery landing. When his paws hit the ground he kept on sliding.
"Levi! No!" Sue screamed but it was too late, he crashed right into Sue, knocking her over. Jack offered his hand but he too was pulled to the floor, almost landing right in Sue's lap. She blushed when she saw that their faces were only inches apart. She turned away from him but Jack was feeling courageous, with one hand he turned her chin towards him.
He slowly leaned forward and when their lips met his heart felt like it too, was over flowing. Jack pushed a damp strand of blonde hair away from her face. Their lips parted and they smiled, almost shyly at each other. "So," Jack cleared his throat, "you want to come over next laundry day, too?"
